Diplomatic fashion fracas: Leavitt's China-made dress dispute
Karoline Leavitt was called a hypocrite by a Chinese diplomat. The consul general in Denpasar, Indonesia, Zhang Zhisheng, accused Donald Trump's spokesperson of wearing clothes "Made in China" while simultaneously criticizing China during her appearances and supporting tariffs.
Donald Trump imposed tariffs on China at a level of 145%, and the authorities in Beijing responded by limiting, among other things, the export of rare earth metals and imposing tariffs on goods from the U.S. at a level of 125%.
Karoline Leavitt often informs the public about the White House's decisions. The spokesperson for Donald Trump's administration was accused of hypocrisy by a Chinese diplomat. He stated that the dress she wore to a press conference on January 31st came from China.
Irish Star reports that the consul general of the People's Republic of China in Indonesia, Zhang Zhisheng, published an alleged photo of the 27-year-old spokesperson's dress. It supposedly had "Made in China" labeled on it.
Accusing China is business. Buying China is life. The beautiful lace on the dress was recognized by an employee of a Chinese company as its product - Zhang Zhisheng wrote on the X platform.
According to the diplomat, the dress comes from a factory in Mabu, China. After accusations from internet users of forgery, Zhang Zhisheng stated that the clothing comes from the Self Portrait brand collection. This is a company registered in the United Kingdom, but created by a Malaysian-Chinese designer.
Karoline Leavitt herself did not respond to the accusations of the Chinese diplomat. The White House spokesperson is facing significant criticism from opponents, who claim that "Leavitt slams Made in China while rocking a Chinese-made dress, hypocrisy much?"
