Drone attacks hit Grozny; Kadyrov vows sharp retaliation

The capital of Chechnya, Grozny, has once again become the target of drone attacks. On Sunday morning, several explosions were reported in the city. The targets of the attack were a police garrison and a military base. For every attempt to attack our targets, we will respond with more precise and sharper retaliatory strikes, announced the leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.

Witnesses of the attack reported that the explosions took place early in the morning, and before them, the characteristic sound of a flying drone was heard.

The independent Chechen channel Niyso reported four explosions. According to reports, the drones attacked the special police regiment of Akhmat Kadyrov, the riot police base, and the military base, "from where people are usually sent to Ukraine."

Four videos showing kamikaze drones were posted on social media.

"In one of them, an unmanned aerial vehicle is seen falling on the grounds of the police regiment in Kadyrov. In another video, a drone flies past two plumes of smoke rising into the sky, possibly from the crash sites of other drones," reports the Russian independent portal Agentsvo.

The recording also features the sounds of machine gunfire—probably attempts to shoot down the drones from the ground.

Another attack on Grozny

This is not the first such attack in recent days. On December 12, four guards were injured when a drone exploded over the barracks of the Akhmat regiment.

The first drone attack on Chechnya occurred on October 29. At that time, the Russian Special Forces University named after Vladimir Putin in the city of Gudermes was attacked. Kadyrov then threatened Ukrainian forces with "retaliation like they have never even dreamed of."

Kadyrov says where Russia struck in retaliation

In response to Sunday's attacks on Grozny, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov announced retaliatory strikes in Ukraine. He added that he had already forwarded the operational data collected by Chechen reconnaissance soldiers about Ukrainian locations.

By 5 PM GMT, the Russian Aerospace Forces had launched two Iskander strikes targeting a site in Kharkiv, reportedly housing the aircraft carriers of the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade, according to a Telegram post by Kadyrov.
