Drone strikes hit Russian base linked to deadly Sumy attack
The Russian base in the city of Shuya in the Ivanovo region was attacked by drones, local media report. The target was the base of the Russian 112th Guards Rocket Brigade, from which Ukrainian Sumy was attacked.
According to residents, at least five powerful explosions and the sounds of gunfire were heard in the city in the middle of the night.
The Shuya city administration reported a threat of drone attacks. Authorities urged city residents not to go outside, avoid windows, and if possible, to move to the lower floors of buildings.
The target of the drone attack was the base of the Russian 112th Guards Rocket Brigade, from which Ukrainian Sumy was attacked on April 13. The media mention revenge for the Russians' brutal shelling, but the Ukrainian armed forces have not yet commented on the drone attack on the Ivanovo region.
Russian attack on Sumy
This is another instance when the base was attacked by drones. The previous attack occurred the day before. Russian media report that nine people died as a result of this incident.
In the Russian attack on the city of Sumy in Ukraine, 34 people were killed, including two children. More than 117 people were injured, among them 15 children.
The attack occurred on Sunday around 10:15 AM local time. The missiles hit the city centre as people were returning from or heading to churches for Palm Sunday, which is also celebrated in Ukraine. Many were also strolling along the boulevard in the central part of Sumy.
The attack was met with responses from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Expressions of outrage also came from the United States, NATO, and many Ukrainian allies.
