Growing tomatoes and cucumbers in a home garden is a popular activity that brings a lot of satisfaction. These vegetables are not only delicious but also packed with nutrients, making them an ideal addition to a daily diet.

However, tomatoes and cucumbers are susceptible to various diseases, including late blight, which can destroy crops. Late blight is a serious threat that can decimate crops in a short time. That is why it's worth using natural protection methods to prevent vegetable diseases.

Fungal diseases of cucumbers and tomatoes

Fungal diseases are a serious threat to cucumber and tomato crops, often leading to significant yield losses. One of the most common diseases is late blight, which attacks both leaves and fruits, causing them to brown and rot.

Another severe disease is powdery mildew, which manifests as a white coating on leaves, leading to their wilting. Also, early blight, known as dry leaf spot, can decimate crops, causing dark spots to form on leaves and fruits.

To prevent and combat these diseases, you can use preparations that you can make at home. One such preparation is a yeast solution used as a spray.

Why use a yeast spray?

Yeast spray is an ecological and natural solution that not only protects plants from fungal diseases but also strengthens their immunity. Yeast is rich in B vitamins, iron, and amino acids that stimulate plant growth and improve crop quality. This makes the plants more resistant to environmental stresses, such as drought or low temperatures.

How to prepare a yeast spray?

Preparing a yeast spray is simple and doesn't require any special skills. Just dissolve 100 grams (3.5 oz) of fresh yeast in 10 litres (2.6 gal) of water. The solution should be mixed thoroughly until the yeast is completely dissolved. Then you need to pour it into a sprayer and spray the plants. Remember to use fresh yeast because only then will the spray be effective. You can also add a bit of liquid soap to help the solution adhere better to the plant leaves and stems.

The yeast spray is best used once a week, on a warm and windless day. Regular use of this natural remedy protects tomatoes and cucumbers from infections and pests, resulting in better crop quality. The spray works not only preventively but also therapeutically, inhibiting the spread of existing disease. Thanks to this, the plants can regenerate and grow without problems.
