EU considers transitional relief as Ukraine trade pact expires

After June 5, the regulation exempting Ukraine from customs duties on agricultural products exported to the EU is set to expire. The European Commission is considering implementing transitional measures until an agreement is negotiated within the framework of the association agreement with Ukraine. The EC spokesperson emphasized that an extension of the regulation is not an option.

Olof Gill, spokesperson for the European Commission, reiterated on Wednesday that extending the regulation is not a possibility. However, to prevent a return to the pre-war duties, the EC is considering introducing transitional measures that would remain effective until a new agreement with Ukraine is negotiated under the 2016 association agreement.
