Flying too high: Businessman fined for unauthorized landing in Dolomites
A businessman from Lombardy decided to take advantage of a few hours of free time to go skiing. He jumped into his ski suit, grabbed his skis, and took the controls of his private helicopter. What he did next left everyone astonished.
What do you need to know?
- Businessman from Lombardy flew by helicopter to a ski slope in the Dolomites, which was noticed by the carabinieri patrolling the area.
- The man did not have permission to land at an altitude above 1,600 metres above sea level, which resulted in a fine.
- The fine amounted to 2,000 euros (CAD 3,148), and after it was imposed, the businessman flew home.
Why did the Lombardy businessman decide on a helicopter?
Italian media described on Saturday an extraordinary event that took place on one of the ski slopes in the Dolomites in Italian Trentino. The carabinieri patrolling the slope in the area of Groste peak could not believe their eyes when they saw a helicopter landing right by the ski route.
The man who got off was already in ski attire and after fastening his skis, he began to calmly ski down, as if nothing had happened.
He really wanted to ski, but had a lot of work
The police stopped him on the slope, checked his identification, and requested the required document authorising him to land a helicopter at an altitude above 1,600 metres above sea level. The 60-year-old businessman from Lombardy admitted that he did not have such permission.
The man then explained that he had a lot of work at the company but really wanted to ski, so to shorten the travel time to the mountains, he decided to fly his helicopter. He also showed his pilot's licence and proof of his insurance.
The ski trip turned out to be very costly
For the unauthorized flight, the police fined him 2,000 euros (CAD 3,148). The businessman clearly no longer felt like skiing. He unfastened his skis and flew home.
