Macron recalled that Canada supported Ukraine after the Russian aggression in February 2022. Both countries also participated in a conference organized by the United Kingdom. He noted that peace should be accompanied by security guarantees that will protect Ukraine from "any new Russian aggression" and ensure security for all of Europe.

“Canada and France want a lasting and solid peace, accompanied by stable guarantees that will protect Ukraine from new Russian aggression and ensure the security of all of Europe,” emphasized Macron. He added that France and Canada will continue to demand clear commitments from Russia.

Prime Minister Carney expressed a desire to strengthen relations with "reliable allies" in Europe, emphasizing that it is now "more important than ever." He called Canada "the most European of non-European countries" and stressed his intent to maintain positive relations with the United States.

Visit to Europe

Paris was the first stop on Carney's European tour after assuming office.

After his working meeting with Macron, the Canadian Prime Minister visited Notre Dame Cathedral. He will then head to the United Kingdom. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen partnerships with European countries in light of President Donald Trump's attacks on Canada's sovereignty.

Canada, as one of Kyiv's partners, is considering sending forces to Ukraine to guarantee a possible ceasefire. The joint efforts of France and Canada aim to ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
