French Minister warns of U.S. concessions to Russia on Ukraine
French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu expressed concerns that the United States might concede to Russia in Ukraine negotiations. He pointed out that Washington has already ruled out sending American troops to Ukraine and its inclusion in NATO.
Sébastien Lecornu expressed concern that when President Donald Trump speaks of negotiating and imposing peace by force, there is a risk that this approach could ultimately be perceived as a weakness in Paris.
Commenting on Washington's stance against sending troops to Ukraine and Kyiv's NATO accession, Lecornu questioned what alternative strategy the U.S. has in place.
Lecornu stressed that Washington's primary focus is China, which drives its desire to end the war in Ukraine. He noted that the new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, informed partners that the United States cannot handle two conflicts at the same time.
Meanwhile, the US president's special envoy to Ukraine, Gen. Keith Kellogg, emphasized on Thursday the significant role of Donald Trump in efforts to end the war in Ukraine. He also pointed out the importance of European leaders in maintaining lasting peace in the region.
