Gene Hackman's estate: Charity plans and inheritance intrigue
After the passing of the well-known actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, more information about their estate has come to light. The couple owned luxurious properties in New Mexico and Hawaii, valued at approximately $16 million CAD. These were included in the will drawn up by the Hollywood star's spouse.
It has been noted that the properties were registered to Betsy, who, in her will, requested that they be donated to charitable causes. According to "The Sun," among the properties is a complex in Santa Fe, valued at around $5.4 million CAD, where the couple's bodies were discovered. The estate also included two other properties: a large commercial property in Honolulu, Hawaii, and a smaller home in New Mexico, valued at $1.4 million CAD.
Although Gene Hackman was the primary breadwinner with an estate valued at approximately $114 million CAD, all the properties were registered to Betsy Arakawa. The couple's legacy raises speculation, especially since Betsy opted to donate the estate to charitable causes, and Gene named her the sole beneficiary.
The situation is complex because Betsy passed away before Gene, which might allow his children from his first marriage to claim the inheritance. Gene Hackman, who relocated to Santa Fe in the 1980s, left behind not only an impressive real estate portfolio but also many questions regarding the circumstances of the couple's death.
Details concerning the couple's death, discovered at the end of February of this year, remain unclear, and a court order prevents the release of autopsy reports. New circumstances suggest that Betsy may have lived longer than initially believed, further complicating the case.
American media have thus far reported that Gene Hackman died due to cardiovascular diseases exacerbated by Alzheimer's disease, and his 65-year-old wife died from a pulmonary syndrome caused by hantavirus. A deceased dog was also found on their property.
What about the funeral?
Hackman's daughter, Elisabeth, recently spoke about the funeral of her stepmother. She would like Betsy Arakawa to be buried alongside her dog, who would be cremated, and she would receive its collar as a keepsake. However, she did not mention anything about her father's funeral.
