Gingerbread oatmeal - A recipe for a sweet breakfast
If you haven't been fond of oatmeal and recall it mainly as the bland mush from preschool, this recipe might just change your mind. The combination of cocoa, spice, and orange creates a delicious oatmeal perfect for starting your day off right.
It's best to use homemade gingerbread spice, which is also great for baking or infusing warmth into tea. When selecting a store-bought blend, check the ingredients carefully. It should purely consist of spices, without any fillers like flour or starch.
Ingredients:
- 5 tablespoons of oats,
- 1 package of skyr yogurt,
- half a teaspoon of gingerbread spice,
- half a teaspoon of cocoa,
- an orange or tangerines,
- your favourite nuts,
- honey to taste.
Instructions:
- Place oats, cocoa, and gingerbread spice in a pot. Add water in double the quantity of the oats.
- Cook until soft. If needed, add more water.
- Mix with vanilla or natural skyr and honey, then transfer to a bowl.
- Top with citrus segments (without the peel) and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
Simple gingerbread oatmeal is now ready. If you prefer a stronger flavour, feel free to add more spices. Walnuts or pecans make excellent toppings. This oatmeal is delicious whether served hot or cold. Enjoy!
