Geraniums are among the most frequently chosen balcony flowers that can captivate with their appearance. Their lush blooming makes them a true decoration for any balcony. However, to enjoy their full beauty, it is important to provide the appropriate growing conditions.

Problems with geranium blooming

Although geraniums are relatively easy to grow, they can occasionally present issues. Sometimes, despite efforts, the flowers do not fully develop. If you’ve noticed that your geraniums aren’t blooming as expected, consider using a homemade fertilizer.

With it, the plants will be covered in flowers, and you’ll be able to enjoy their beauty all summer long. What's more, you likely already have the ingredients needed to prepare this fertilizer at home.

How to care for geraniums?

Geraniums are flowers that require the right conditions to flourish. First of all, they need a substantial amount of light, although they also tolerate partial shade. Providing them with the right soil is also crucial.

It is best to plant them in soil specifically designed for their cultivation, which contains all the necessary nutrients. Regular watering is essential, especially on hot days, but you should avoid wetting the leaves to prevent fungal diseases.

Homemade fertilizer from onion peels

To ensure that geraniums bloom abundantly, it is worthwhile to fertilize them regularly, especially in the spring and summer. An excellent solution is a homemade fertilizer based on onion peels, which are rich in valuable nutrients like magnesium, copper, manganese, iron, calcium, and B vitamins.

Importantly, the onion peel conditioner does not acidify the soil, which can be an issue with some store-bought fertilizers. Preparing this fertilizer is quick and simple – it takes less than 10 minutes.

How to prepare fertilizer from onion peels?

To prepare the fertilizer, you need two handfuls of onion peels and about 2 litres of boiling water. Place the peels into a glass jar and pour hot water over them. Close the jar and set it aside in a dark and cool place for at least 24 hours. After this period, you can start watering the plants.

Repeat the process every two weeks, and after just a few uses, you will see how geraniums begin to grow intensely and bloom more abundantly. This simple trick will fill your balcony with stunning, impressive flowers.
