Once baked, the rolls impress with a crispy crust and a soft interior that melts in your mouth.

Turkish rolls – a simple recipe for success

One of the greatest advantages of Turkish rolls is their straightforward ingredients. A few basic items, typically found in every kitchen, are all you need to create exceptional bread. Additionally, if you want a crispier crust, you can use the grilling function for a minute or two at the end of baking. The basic version of the recipe allows you to make eight small rolls, but you can easily increase the ingredients for a larger portion, perfect for family breakfasts or gatherings with friends.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 egg yolk for brushing
  • Black cumin seeds for sprinkling

Preparation:

  1. In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients: yogurt, oil, and egg white.
  3. Combine the dry and wet ingredients, mixing until you achieve a uniform mass.
  4. Divide the dough into 8 parts and form balls.
  5. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Brush the rolls with egg yolk and sprinkle with black cumin seeds.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C for about 15 minutes, until the rolls rise and turn golden brown.

Turkish rolls are an excellent addition to breakfast, dinner, or as a daytime snack. You can serve them with butter, jam, cheese, vegetable spreads, or as a side to soups. Their unique texture makes them taste like bread straight from a Turkish bakery, yet they are quick and easy to prepare at home. Try them once—and you won't want to go back to store-bought rolls.
