For the second time in 24 hours, we attacked the USS Harry S. Truman in the northern part of the Red Sea using numerous ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. The fighting lasted several hours, reported a Houthi spokesperson on social media.

Houthis attack, USA responds in Yemen

In response to the Houthis' actions, the United States conducted two airstrikes on the port city of Al-Hudaydah in Yemen, reported Al-Masirah television, affiliated with the Houthis.

However, the U.S. has not yet commented on these reports. It is worth noting that since the fall of 2023, the Houthis have carried out over 100 attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, disrupting transport through this crucial maritime route.

Escalation of the Yemen-USA conflict

In the U.S. airstrikes on Saturday, at least 53 people died, including civilians, and nearly 100 were injured. It was the largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Donald Trump resumed the presidency in January 2025. The Houthis announced that in retaliation, they attacked the American aircraft carrier and its escort ships with missiles and drones.

An anonymous Pentagon official told Reuters that American fighter jets shot down 11 Houthi drones, which did not approach the USS Harry S. Truman.

International reactions

The Houthis are regarded by the West as a terrorist organization, and their actions are aimed at ships linked to Israel.

The USA, Israel, and their allies have previously carried out retaliatory strikes on the Houthis. During Joe Biden's presidency, American airstrikes were more targeted operations. Trump announced that he would initiate large-scale attacks on Houthi infrastructure. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth stated that airstrikes would continue, until the Houthis say they will no longer fire on ships in the Red Sea.

Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi responded that his group would continue to attack American ships until the USA stops airstrikes on Yemen. In the past, the Houthis have also attacked Israel, which met their actions with strong retaliatory airstrikes. On Sunday, a Houthi missile crashed on the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, prompting the Israeli air force to be placed on high alert.
