India and Pakistan strike historic ceasefire agreement
After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire, announced U.S. President Donald Trump. Pakistan confirmed Trump's statement.
In his post on Truth Social published on Saturday, Trump wrote: "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
A statement was also issued by Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, who announced that he is pleased to announce the immediate ceasefire agreement by the governments of India and Pakistan and their agreement to "begin talks on a wide range of topics in a neutral location."
In a social media post, Rubio wrote that over the past 48 hours he and Vice President J.D. Vance have held talks "senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik."
He added: "We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace."
Pakistan confirms Trump's statement
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the ceasefire agreement with India in a post on platform X.
"Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!" he wrote.
The time of these announcements on Saturday was not specified, but they align with Eastern Time for clarity in North America.
