Media reports are surfacing about the possible resignation of Ramzan Kadyrov. A close Kremlin ally confirmed in an interview with Russian media that Kadyrov had approached Vladimir Putin, requesting to be relieved of his role as the leader of Chechnya.

During a conversation with journalists, Kadyrov addressed the ongoing rumours about his potential resignation.

"I've heard those rumors too. They write all sorts of things. On the contrary, I myself am asking to be dismissed from my position. Someone else will have their own initiatives and vision. I hope my request will be supported," Kadyrov said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

Kadyrov also clarified that his earlier statements about resignation had been misunderstood. "I can ask, but only the president makes the decision," he emphasized, referring to Putin.

Earlier reports from "Novaya Gazeta Europa" suggested that Kadyrov's health condition had deteriorated, which might have hastened the potential for a change of power in Chechnya.
