To clean the toilet, try a natural antiseptic like table salt. This common spice will eliminate bacteria and microorganisms, thereby removing unpleasant odours. Moreover, salt absorbs moisture, which helps tackle the limescale formed in the toilet.
A weekly "treatment," consisting of throwing a handful of salt into the bowl, will neutralize unpleasant odours that spread from the sewer pipes into the bathroom. If you want to try salt for yourself, follow a few simple steps:
- first, pour a cup of salt into the bowl (if you're facing stubborn dirt, you can add more);
- then pour warm but not boiling water over the salt. Ideally, the liquid's temperature should not exceed 40 degrees Celsius;
- give the salt time to work - leave its solution in the bowl for up to two hours;
- after the allocated time has passed, flush it away.
Stubborn limescale? You may need something stronger
If you have trouble removing limescale, try using baking yeast. This product contains ingredients that help break down mineral deposits. Just a teaspoon of powdered yeast mixed with half a cup of hot water is enough. Pour this mixture into the toilet overnight - in the morning, flush it with water. The limescale should be much easier to remove completely.
