Prime Minister Albin Kurti fell victim to the famous Russian comedians who impersonated Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs. Due to this deception, a video call lasting several minutes occurred. It was recorded and published by comedians Vovan and Lexus, aka Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov. The conversation, which came to light on Wednesday, occurred in February, just after the parliamentary elections in Kosovo.

This incident took place on February 11, shortly after the February 9 elections, during a period when Prime Minister Kurti was receiving numerous congratulatory messages and calls regarding the election results. Due to time constraints, it was not always possible to conduct thorough verification of each call — said the Prime Minister's office.

The Self-Determination Party, led by Kurti, won the elections, receiving 40.8 percent of the votes, but lost the majority. Kosovar groups have yet to reach an agreement on forming a new government.

Russia interested in Kosovo

In a statement from the Prime Minister's office, it was emphasized that this incident confirms Russia's interest in Kosovo and its ongoing attacks on the country. Prime Minister Kurti pointed out the "hybrid war" being waged against his administration, indicating that the attacks mainly originate from Serbia, Russia, and some elements within Kosovo.

While we regret that Prime Minister Albin Kurti was targeted by a prank call, this episode reaffirms Prime Minister Kurti’s principled and consistent stance on key issues, whether in public or private conversations — the statement reads.

Russian comedians Vovan and Lexus have numerous similar pranks to their credit. In the past, their victims have included, among others, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Polish President Andrzej Duda, British Prince Harry, and musician Elton John.
