Kremlin challenges accuracy of German claims on weapon limits
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded to the comments made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the absence of restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons. He believes there's "considerable confusion" regarding this issue.
- If Merz's statements about the increased range of missiles supplied to Ukraine are accurate, we are facing escalation - said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
Putin's spokesperson emphasized, however, that "there is considerable confusion" on this subject. - It is unclear if this corresponds to reality or not. Because yesterday Merz said that the decision had been made, that the Europeans made this decision... Yesterday, one of the government members denied it, and today Merz still insisted that such a decision was made several months ago - said Peskov.
"There are no restrictions on weapon range"
To recap, on Monday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that "there are no longer any range restrictions on the weapons delivered to Ukraine, neither from the British, the French, us, nor the Americans."
Merz also mentioned that Ukraine can now defend itself by targeting military sites in Russia, which it couldn't do previously. - Now it can - emphasized the chancellor, quoted by the DPA agency.
- Russia ruthlessly attacks civilian targets and bombards cities - said Merz. - Ukraine does not do this, and it should remain that way. However, a country that is only able to oppose the aggressor on its own territory is not defending itself adequately - added the German chancellor.
