Kremlin's troubled victory: Kursk region's uneasy reclamation

The Russians are gradually returning to the territory of the Kursk region, part of which was occupied by Ukrainian forces. Not everyone in Russia is pleased about this development. Putin's soldiers are reportedly engaging in criminal activities. Ukrainian politician Anton Herashchenko shared a recording that is claimed to substantiate these allegations.

The Ukrainians are withdrawing from the Kursk region due to pressure from Russian forces. The military has faced challenges from Russian drone and artillery attacks. Vladimir Putin has prioritized regaining control of the lost territory as one of his primary objectives. For Moscow, the fact that Ukrainians managed to hold on to parts of their territory for such an extended period is a blow to its image. Unfortunately, the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered significant casualties in the Kursk region. The operation, which commenced in August of last year, also meant that Kyiv lacked forces on other fronts, enabling recent Russian advances.

Russians return to the Kursk region

Not all residents of the territory being reclaimed by the Kremlin are delighted. Anton Herashchenko, a Ukrainian politician and former deputy minister of internal affairs, reports thefts, rapes, and murders allegedly committed by Russians in the reclaimed areas.

He also presented a video showing Russian looters entering damaged buildings and showing particular interest in property. A chicken happened to be wandering around the yard.

These are not the only instances of alleged Russian thefts. We recently covered the story of a man who provided footage from his home, showing evidence of a robbery by Russians. A resident of Repyachovka village in the Belgorod region complained that demoralized soldiers were stealing items, even though nothing valuable remained in his house.
