Kyiv under siege: Deadly attack leaves city reeling
In a massive attack on Kyiv, nine people were killed and 63 were injured, local authorities report. At least five districts of the city were shelled, and rescuers are still pulling people from the rubble.
"On the night of April 22, Kyiv was attacked. As of 12:06 AM Eastern Time, nine people have been reported dead and 63 injured, including six children and a pregnant woman," said Timur Tkachenko, head of the State Audit Office of Kyiv. Forty-two people have been hospitalized.
According to the mayor of Kyiv, the Sviatoshynskyi district was most affected by the enemy attack. Fires broke out in six locations. Emergency services are still working on-site. Rescuers are still pulling people from the rubble, reported Vitali Klitschko.
Civil infrastructure was destroyed in the attack. Garages, homes, and cars were damaged in the fires.
Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs stated that the rescue operation is still ongoing. "Phone conversations can be heard under the ruins—search efforts will continue until there is certainty that everyone has been extracted," he added.
Ukrainian attack on Crimea
Russian Telegram channels also reported on an attack on occupied Crimea. One of the more popular channels published a map of drones approaching the peninsula.
Before midnight Eastern Time, the Russians even closed traffic on the Crimean Bridge.
After about an hour, traffic on the crossing linking Crimea with Russia was restored.
