On the same day, the Lebanese Socialist Party (PSP) appealed to state institutions not to accept Syrians linked to the regime of the ousted president Bashar al-Assad. The group warns that accepting such individuals could lead to dangerous "legal and political repercussions" for Lebanon.

The coming days could bring many changes in Syria, which on December 8th, liberated itself from the decades-long rule of dictator Bashar al-Assad. The revolution began recently after 13 years of civil war in Syria.

Fighters, mainly from the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), announced the capture of Damascus and the fall of the Assad family, who have held power for over 50 years. The country is beginning a new era that may also impact other countries in the region.

As of Tuesday, it is known who will lead the new state. Muhammad al-Bashir has been appointed the interim prime minister of the Syrian government.

A politician and engineer, who made a statement on Tuesday on Syrian television, will hold this position until March 1st, 2025. Since January 2024, he has served as the prime minister of the self-proclaimed administration of the Islamist group (HTS) - the Syrian Salvation Government.
