Cutting boards are an essential part of every kitchen, and regular cleaning is crucial for hygiene. Residue from cutting meat, fish, vegetables, or fruit provides a perfect environment for microorganisms to grow. Regular and thorough cleaning of the board is not just a matter of aesthetics. Want your cutting board to last for years? Take proper care of it by cleaning and maintaining it regularly.

How to clean a wooden cutting board?

Wood is a natural and porous material, which means it easily absorbs water, grease, and odours. Long-term soaking or washing in a dishwasher can lead to cracking, warping, and bacterial growth. Because of this, washing them may seem complicated. However, you just need to look into your fruit basket and use a lemon.

After each use, a wooden board should be washed with warm water and dish soap, then thoroughly dried. To remove strong odours, you can rub the board with half a lemon and rinse. Lemon neutralizes strong odours such as garlic, onion, or fish, which can be easily absorbed by wood.

Once a week, it's also a good idea to use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Wash the board with hydrogen peroxide, sprinkle with baking soda, wait 15 minutes, and then rinse with warm water.

What cutting boards to choose for the kitchen?

To keep cutting boards clean more easily, opt for those that do not require much effort. Consider choosing still-less-popular glass boards. Glass boards are resistant to bacteria and odours, making them an ideal choice for the kitchen. Simply wash them with a bit of dish soap, and they are ready for further use.
