At Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, a man was detained while transporting more than 350 passports from Guinea-Bissau. These documents may be original and may be part of a criminal operation aimed at legalizing the stay of immigrants in Portugal.

The detained man is suspected of belonging to a criminal group involved in legalizing the stay of people residing in Portugal without valid documentation. The investigation is being conducted by three branches of Portuguese security services, which have already charged him with offences related to smuggling state documents.

Portugal, with a population of over 10 million, has been struggling with the problem of illegal immigration for years. It is estimated that around half a million people live in the country without regulated legal status.

In response to this issue, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro's government has announced the deportation of at least 4,500 illegal immigrants by June of this year.
