Marinated chicken wings: A grill favourite redefined
Are you planning a menu for a barbecue and looking for inspiration? I have a great solution for you that always works. It will definitely be a hit at your place too! These wings achieve maximum flavour thanks to the sweet and spicy marinade.
When you think of grilling, probably the first things that come to mind are sausage, pork neck, or kebabs. Of course, these are delicious options, but the list of grill favourites can be much longer. A great example is chicken wings. They are not only tasty but also easy to prepare. You don't need complicated ingredients to create something special. All it takes is a simple marinade, which you will find below.
Why is it worth marinating chicken?
Marinating chicken before grilling is not only a matter of taste but also of improving the texture of the meat. Thanks to the marinade, the meat becomes more tender and juicy. This process can be accelerated using acids like lemon juice or vinegar, which tenderize the muscle fibres. It is also beneficial to add oils and spices that penetrate deep into the meat, enriching its flavour. In our recipe, we take it a step further by using butter for the fat, along with other liquid ingredients like passata and maple syrup.
How to make grilled wings?
The key elements are not only the poultry but also the mentioned marinade. A sweet-garlic mix is an ideal flavour combination for this part of the chicken. When grilling, it's important to remember a few rules. The meat should be at room temperature before placing it on the grill to ensure even cooking. It's also important not to dry out the chicken—grilling over medium heat and regularly turning the pieces helps maintain its juiciness.
Ingredients for the marinade:
- 800 grams of chicken wings,
- 85 grams of butter,
- 3 tablespoons of brown sugar,
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup,
- 2 cloves of garlic,
- 200 grams of tomato passata,
- 1 tablespoon of granulated onion,
- 2 tablespoons of dried marjoram,
- 1 tablespoon of sweet paprika,
- 1 teaspoon of salt.
Preparation method:
- Start by preparing the marinade. In a pot on the stove, combine butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup.
- Once the butter has melted, add tomato passata, crushed garlic, and spices: granulated onion, marjoram, paprika, and salt. Mix everything thoroughly.
- Place the cleaned wings in a large bowl and pour the prepared marinade over them. Mix well so that the ingredients combine thoroughly. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
- After this time, place the wings on a preheated grill. Grill each side for about 10 minutes until they turn golden.
- Serve the wings with parsley, sauces, or dips. A light salad will also be a great addition. Enjoy!
