Microsoft announced new, higher prices for Xbox consoles, starting May 1st. The price hikes are global, which means the hardware will also be more expensive in Canada. All versions of the current generation of Xbox consoles are increasing by €50, approximately CAD 72.

New prices for Xbox and controllers

The price increases apply to consoles and controllers. Microsoft has stated that headset sales will only rise in the United States and Canada. Some controllers, such as the Adaptive Controller and Adaptive Joystick, will remain at the same price.

Microsoft decided to raise Xbox console prices a few weeks after Sony announced new prices for the PS5. In Sony’s case, the price hikes affect the PS5 Digital Edition, while the disc version and the PS5 Pro remain unchanged. Moreover, the standalone drive became cheaper.

How much for an Xbox console?

  • Xbox Series S 512GB – approximately $499 CAD
  • Xbox Series S 1TB – approximately $571 CAD
  • Xbox Series X Digital – approximately $786 CAD
  • Xbox Series X – approximately $857 CAD
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition – approximately $1,000 CAD

In its official statement, Microsoft emphasized that the price changes have been made with due diligence, considering market conditions and rising development costs.
