Moscow airports halt operations amid Ukrainian drone attacks

Four main airports in Moscow suspended operations due to an attack by Ukrainian drones, as reported by the authorities of the Russian capital during the night from Monday to Tuesday. The city's mayor reports that the air defence managed to shoot down several drones.

Which airports were affected?

Four major Moscow airports—Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—were forced to halt flights. The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) made this decision for safety reasons. The reason cited was a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian capital.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reports on his Telegram channel that at least 19 Ukrainian drones were destroyed while flying toward the Russian capital.

Footage allegedly showing the damage caused by the remnants of Ukrainian drones appeared on Russian Telegram channels. One of them reportedly struck a residential building in one of the city's districts.

What happened in the Kursk region?

Ukrainian drones are also reported to have targeted locations in the Ryazan, Tambov, Tula, Astrakhan, Nizhny Novgorod, Tver, and Smolensk regions.

The authorities of the Kursk region reported an attack by Ukrainian drones on a power substation in the city of Rylsk. Two transformers were damaged, resulting in power outages. Two people are reported to have been injured as a result of the attack.
