North Korean troops face heavy losses in Ukraine conflict
The South Korean National Intelligence Service has disclosed information about North Korean troops in Ukraine, reporting "significant losses." In the conflict with Ukraine, at least 300 North Korean soldiers have died, and 2,700 have been injured, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, citing intelligence data.
The South Korean National Intelligence Service shared these details during a closed session of the parliamentary intelligence committee. Lee Song Kwen, a representative of the ruling People Power Party, confirmed the reports of North Korean casualties.
An analysis of combat operation recordings indicates "significant losses" among North Korean soldiers who were deployed to support Moscow in the war against Ukraine. These losses are attributed to their "lack of understanding of modern warfare," such as "pointless" firing at drones - according to the intelligence agency Yonhap.
The National Intelligence Service also confirmed earlier reports that North Korea is forcing its soldiers to commit suicide to avoid capture by Ukrainian armed forces.
Ukraine captured the first prisoners
Commenting on the footage released by Ukraine showing two North Korean prisoners of war, Lee emphasized that one of the prisoners expressed no desire to return to North Korea.
According to information from the National Intelligence Service, two soldiers from North Korea, captured by Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region of Russia, were members of the General Reconnaissance Bureau, a key North Korean intelligence agency.
