Nuclear weapons in Ukraine hinge on Trump's pivotal decision
American Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Breitbart News that the deployment of nuclear weapons in Ukraine will depend on Donald Trump's decision.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested that his country should receive NATO membership or nuclear weapons as a security guarantee against further Russian aggression. Zelensky stated that if the process of joining NATO were to take years or decades, Ukraine should receive nuclear weapons.
Hegseth responded to the proposal by stating that his role is not to announce anything open or reckless. He emphasized that it is the president's responsibility, as the leader and master of negotiations and deal-making, to make such decisions.
Hegseth criticizes Europe
On Thursday, Hegseth spoke at NATO headquarters in Belgium, referencing the post-World War II era when General Dwight Eisenhower, later President, stressed the importance of strong ties with Europe. However, by the end of his presidency, Eisenhower had become concerned that Europe was not contributing enough to its own defence.
On Wednesday, Hegseth stated that achieving the liberation of all Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia is an unrealistic goal.
Donald Trump announced that representatives of the USA, Russia, and Ukraine would meet during the Munich Security Conference. Neither Trump nor Vladimir Putin will attend the meeting, but high-ranking officials will be present. Ukraine, however, rejected the proposal.
