Organize your kitchen: Simple tips for a clutter-free space
You're always searching for something, forgetting where you put the spices, and once again, flour spills on the pantry shelf. The kitchen is a place where it's hard to maintain order. Here are some tips to help keep it tidy and manage the chaos.
We often think about how the kitchen will be organized at the design stage. We then decide how many cabinets will be needed and how much space is required for food storage. However, that doesn't mean we can't improve a kitchen we've used for years. Here are some proven tips.
Tips for keeping order in the kitchen
- Storing spices in the kitchen often causes problems. When they are in the wrong place, finding the ones you need is hard, and they sometimes spill. It's better to transfer them to jars or special containers. Then, you can arrange them in cabinets or drawers. It's always good to label them. Spices look alike and are easy to confuse, and this way you can avoid that.
- It's best to store cutlery in a drawer just below the countertop so it’s within easy reach. Use unique containers with compartments for them. Kitchen drawer organizers make it easy to arrange all the cutlery and other kitchen accessories. Place the most frequently used items at the front of the drawer, while those not used daily should be at the back. Sharp kitchen knives should be placed in a stand or on a magnetic strip, as they are easier to cut in drawers.
- Corner cabinets are usually the most spacious, ideal for storing pots and other more extensive kitchen accessories. The most convenient ones have installed pull-out baskets, making keeping things tidy easier. If the cabinet is far from the stove, consider using it for food storage, while pots should be as close as possible.
- Deep drawers and lower cabinets are suitable for storing pots. They are also good places for larger dishes, rarely used ones, and kitchen appliances. Taking them out from lower drawers or cabinets is much easier than reaching up to upper cabinets.
- Upper cabinets are perfect for storing coffee, tea, and glasses, cups, or wine glasses. This part of the setup is meant for items we often use and need easy access.
