On Thursday, dramatic events unfolded in the parliament of Abkhazia. During an argument, lawmaker Adgur Charaziya shot one of the deputies dead and seriously wounded another. The perpetrator fled the scene.

According to information from the Abkhazian Ministry of Health, the fatal victim is lawmaker Vakhtang Golandziya. The seriously injured Kan Kvarchia was transported to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care.

The Echo of the Caucasus portal, a division of Radio Liberty, reported that the incident started with an argument between Charaziya and Kvarcziya. Golandziya attempted to separate them. Unfortunately, it ended tragically for him.

Charaziya was once detained: He shot a man

Adgur Charaziya is the former mayor of Sukhumi, the capital of the unrecognized republic. In 2020, he was detained as a suspect of deliberately causing grievous bodily harm and illegal possession of a weapon. At the time, he allegedly shot an employee of the Central Market Sukhumi administration, Almas Shakryl.

The shooting occurred during a debate on cryptocurrency mining. Due to the energy crisis in the region, the parliament was considering a bill to ban so-called bitcoin mining. This process is associated with large losses of energy and water, which are necessary for cooling computers.
