Perfecting party snacks: Mastering marinated herring delights
We have many great opportunities to catch up with family and friends over some tasty snacks. See if herring with sun-dried tomatoes suits your loved ones' palates.
Herring marinated in oil with sun-dried tomatoes and Dijon mustard is an easy-to-prepare snack that looks impressive and works excellently as finger food. Here are a few serving ideas for your next party.
What kind of herring should you use for the snack?
Herring with sun-dried tomatoes is easiest to prepare using fillets marinated in oil. Unlike brine fillets, these don't require soaking. Simply rinse them once or twice under running water, and they will be ready for your snack.
If you have brine fillets, you can use them, but allow an extra day for soaking the herring.
Can you prepare herring with sun-dried tomatoes just before the party?
It's not the best idea. Although the snack will be edible, the ingredients won't have time to meld properly. It's advisable to prepare the herring with sun-dried tomatoes a day in advance and store them in the refrigerator to let the flavours develop. This way, you'll have more time for other preparations before the party.
