Poland deepens defense ties with Ukraine amid escalating war
Poland has long been cooperating with Ukraine in the production of weapons and ammunition, said Piotr Łukasiewicz, head of the Polish embassy in Kyiv, in an interview with the Ukrainian service zn.ua. The diplomat added that a Ukrainian defence industry plant has been established in Poland.
Łukasiewicz mentioned that the Polish and Ukrainian defence industries also cooperate on matters such as drone production, tank repairs, and development in the area of high technology.
When asked about the Ukrainian defence plant operating in Poland, the diplomat replied that he could not provide details.
Some countries declaring such cooperation, such as building a factory to produce military equipment, are geographically far from Russia. Since nothing threatens them, they can discuss it. We are located very close (to Russia - editorial note). Geography in this context is very important, emphasized Łukasiewicz in the conversation with zn.ua.
Dire situation for Ukrainians on the front line
Meanwhile, the year 2024 is ending with significant territorial losses for Ukraine, logistical problems, and continuous personnel shortages in frontline units. Notably, the last three months have been the worst for the Ukrainian army since the spring of 2022.
Efforts to quickly remedy the situation have helped little: in November, Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi was appointed the new Commander of the Land Forces, and a month earlier, a plan was announced to mobilize another 160,000 soldiers to meet the most urgent needs.
Without further radical actions, the situation may worsen. The question remains whether the leaders and citizens are ready for further sacrifices. As the war drags on, with increasing losses and further setbacks, support for its continuation is waning. The year 2025 might be crucial for the future of the conflict in the southeastern part of the country. This could result in Russians taking over all of Donbas.
