Pope Leo XIV set for pivotal Vatican meeting with Zelensky

Pope Leo XIV, following the inauguration of his pontificate, is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, who attended the Mass at St. Peter's Square. The Vatican confirmed the audience.

On Sunday, there was a solemn Mass inaugurating the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, who was elected at the conclave on May 8th. Approximately 150,000 people participated in the Mass.

There were 156 official delegations present, including presidents, prime ministers, representatives of monarchies, and other faiths and religions. Among them were Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and the head of the Israeli state Isaac Herzog.

The United States was represented by Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola were also in attendance.

Vatican: Pope's meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky announced

As announced by the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV will meet again on Sunday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who attended the Mass at St. Peter's Square.

Earlier, Leo XIV had a phone conversation with the Ukrainian leader. The president then invited him to Ukraine.

Zelensky wrote in a Monday post on the X platform that he talked to Pope Leo XIV. It was the first conversation, but it was very warm and truly substantive.
