Pope Leo XIV's coat of arms is a shield divided into two sections, each with deep symbolic significance. In the upper section, on a blue background, there is a white lily, symbolizing purity and Mary. The lower section of the coat of arms features a closed book with a heart pierced by an arrow, referencing the conversion of St. Augustine. St. Augustine described his experience with the words: "Vulnerasti cor meum verbo tuo" – "You have pierced my heart with your word."

Leo XIV's motto is "In Illo uno unum," which signifies that despite diversity, Christians are united in Christ. These words are derived from a sermon by St. Augustine, who in his Commentary on Psalm 127, emphasized the importance of unity in the Church.

Archbishop Prevost, in an interview with Tiziana Campisi on July 10, 2023, explained that unity and communion are essential elements of the charism of the Order of St. Augustine. He emphasized that promoting communion in the Church is fundamental, and unity, participation, and mission are the three essential words of the Synod.

As an Augustinian, Leo XIV highlights these values in his ministry.
