Hulu has decided to order a pilot episode of the new version of "Prison Break". According to "Variety," this new iteration won't focus on the well-known characters, Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, but will introduce a new group of prisoners.

The return of "Prison Break" - what do we know?

Given the trend of revisiting hits from the past, it's no surprise that this series is getting a fresh version. So far, it's confirmed that Elgin James, co-creator of "Mayans M.C.", along with 20th Television, is on board for the production. Among the executive producers are Dawn Olmstead, original "Prison Break" creator Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz.

That's not a lot to go on at this stage. We shouldn't expect plot details just yet, but international media confirm that fans of "Prison Break" can look forward to the story returning to the small screen.

The original "Prison Break" aired for five seasons on Fox, and its success spawned the TV movie "Prison Break: The Final Break" and the spin-off "Prison Break: Proof of Innocence", though these didn't receive the warm reception that the original did. The original series captivated audiences with the story of Michael Scofield, an engineer who, after discovering that his older brother has been wrongly sentenced to death, deliberately gets himself imprisoned to help him escape. He covers his body with tattoos that conceal the layout of Fox River prison, and as he executes his intricate plan, viewers were kept on the edge of their seats.

The first season was so acclaimed that the creators won a Golden Globe. It inspired a video game, webisodes, a magazine, and novels. Key roles were played by Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Paul Adelstein, among others.
