Putin and Trump's envoy discuss potential Ukraine ceasefire
Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a meeting with Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, as reported by the Kremlin's press office. According to the TASS agency, the discussion is expected to focus on "the normalisation of ties between Moscow and Washington and some aspects of the Ukrainian settlement."
Witkoff's discussions with Putin are part of the Trump administration's efforts to negotiate a 30-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This marks the third meeting between Witkoff and Putin, as reported earlier by the Axios portal, regarding Trump's envoy's visit to Russia.
This time, Witkoff travelled to St. Petersburg. There, he also met with Putin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked about the potential duration of the meeting, replied that the talks could last "an hour, two, three, or four if necessary." "As long as President Putin needs," he added.
"The painstaking work continues. Naturally, Witkoff, as a special representative of President Trump, will bring something from his president to Putint," said Peskov. He revealed that the discussion would cover "various aspects of the Ukrainian settlement." The Kremlin spokesperson assessed that there are many aspects, and the essence is very complex.
