Russia calls on U.S. to cease military strikes in Yemen
The Russian Foreign Minister has urged the United States to stop military actions against the pro-Iranian Houthi rebels in Yemen. This appeal came after a phone conversation with the U.S. Secretary of State, Mark Rubio.
Many pieces of information provided by Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information warfare conducted by the Russian Federation.
Minister Sergey Lavrov demanded an immediate halt to the use of force and called for all parties to engage in political dialogue. He claims the goal is to find a solution to prevent further bloodshed. This information was communicated by the Russian ministry after Lavrov's phone conversation with Mark Rubio.
On Saturday evening, the U.S. president announced the start of a "decisive" and "powerful" military operation against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. As a result of the American attacks, at least 31 people were killed, and more than 100 were injured.
Iran's reaction
Iran described Sunday's attacks as barbaric, alleging that women and children were among the victims. Since the fall of 2023, the Houthis have carried out over 100 attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, claiming they are acts of solidarity with Hamas in its fight against Israel.
The Houthis are one of the parties in the Yemeni civil war, ongoing since 2014, and they control a significant portion of the country, including the Red Sea coastline.
On Saturday, the U.S. State Department stated that Rubio had a phone conversation with Lavrov, focusing on negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
