Russia intensifies assault on Ukrainian-held Kursk territory
Russian armed forces are intensifying attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Kursk region, engaging special forces from various directions. Ukraine still controls approximately 298 square kilometres of Russian territory. Information about the situation around Kursk was provided in a report by the British Ministry of Defence.
Russian troops continue their offensive on Ukrainian positions in the Kursk region, attacking from the west, north, and east. The latest intelligence update from the British Ministry of Defence emphasized that Ukrainians hold approximately 115 square miles of the Kursk region.
Despite the intensification of actions, the Russians are conducting fewer offensive operations at the beginning of 2025 than at the end of 2024. They are intensively advancing on Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region but are still unable to expel the opponent from their territory.
Ukrainian counterattacks in the Donetsk region
In the Donetsk region, near Pokrovsk, Ukrainian forces conducted successful counterattacks against the towns of Pishchane, Udachne, Shevchenko, and Kutyr. The report's authors explain that the reduced frequency of Russian attacks on Ukrainian positions has enabled numerous Ukrainian counterattacks.
According to the latest intelligence report by the British, the Russian army has another problem there. Ukrainian drones are effectively destroying Russian logistics transports.
Ukrainian forces entered the Kursk region on August 6, 2024, aiming to force the Russians to transfer some of their forces from the Donbas. In response, Russia brought soldiers from North Korea to the region. It is estimated that as many as 10,000 North Korean soldiers could have been in the Kursk region.
