Russia ramps up missile assault on Ukrainian power grid
The renewed massive attack by Russian troops on the Ukrainian energy sector was reported on Friday by the Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko. The Russian army launched a substantial number of missiles into Ukrainian territory, and an air raid alert had been ongoing since the morning.
"The enemy continues its terror. Once again, the energy sector in Ukraine is the target of a massive attack. Energy professionals are taking all necessary measures to minimise the negative consequences for the country's energy system," the statement reads.
Minister Galushchenko appealed to remain in shelters as long as the threat persists. "As soon as the security situation permits, the damage will be assessed. Stay up to date with official updates," he wrote.
The transmission network operator, Ukrenergo, reported that "due to the massive missile attack on energy facilities, the scope of applying consumption-reducing measures has been increased today."
Across the entire territory of Ukraine, due to the massive attack by Russian troops, an air raid alert had been ongoing since the morning.
