As reported in the newspaper, the agreement was supposed to take place on August 22-23. However, according to the newspaper's sources, Putin drastically changed his mind. The reason was Ukraine's alleged actions. The Russian leader reportedly claimed that Ukraine used the preparations as a cover for operations on Russian territory.

According to the newspaper, Putin stopped considering the possibility of peace talks with Kyiv after the attack on the Kursk region. He allegedly stated that he would continue fighting until Ukraine collapses.

According to The Moscow Times, Putin was reportedly disheartened by the situation and stated that Kyiv used the meeting preparations in Qatar as a cover for operations on Russian territory.

According to the newspaper's source, the Kremlin concluded that it would destroy Ukraine. "Now it smells of no-holds-barred fighting," the source reported.
