Russian missile strike on Odessa port claims four lives
On Tuesday evening, the Russians carried out a missile attack on the port in Odessa. One of the missiles hit a civilian ship flying the flag of Barbados. Four sailors have died, and two are injured.
Oleg Kiper, head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration, reported that as a result of the Russian ballistic attack, the ship "MJ PINA" under the flag of Barbados was damaged. "Unfortunately, four people died - Syrian citizens. The youngest was 18 years old, and the oldest 24," Kiper wrote on his Telegram channel.
In addition to the four fatalities, two men were injured - one of them is Ukrainian, and the other is Syrian. "At the time of the attack, the ship was loading wheat intended for export to Algeria. It is an absolutely civilian ship," Kiper emphasized.
As Kiper informed, the Russian attack also caused damage to another ship, docks, and grain storage warehouses.
Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire
"Russia is attacking Ukraine's infrastructure, including ports involved in ensuring global food security. It is important that port infrastructure is protected from terror and that free and safe navigation is guaranteed. We need to continue strengthening our air defence and achieve lasting peace and security through the strength of weapons and diplomacy," Kiper stated in his entry.
On Tuesday, talks between the U.S. and Ukrainian delegations were held in Saudi Arabia. After nearly nine hours of negotiations, both sides issued a joint statement. The U.S. will resume military and intelligence assistance to Kyiv, and the Ukrainian side has expressed readiness to accept the United States' proposal for an immediate, temporary 30-day ceasefire. Now the U.S. is to persuade Russia to accept this solution.
