Russian threat to NATO territories a looming concern, warns German intelligence head
- Russian forces could potentially attack NATO territory by the end of this decade, stated Bruno Kahl, head of Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND), on Monday. He added that Moscow views the West as an adversary. The Kremlin responded swiftly, accusing NATO of seeking confrontation with Russia.
Many reports from Russian media or government representatives contain elements of propaganda, which is part of the Russian Federation's information warfare.
- Russia, with its military infrastructure, has never approached NATO. It has always been the opposite, with NATO's ongoing expansions towards Russia's borders. This clearly indicates who poses a threat to whom, stated Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during a meeting with journalists. This was his response to the words of the German intelligence chief, spoken on Monday during a parliamentary committee meeting in Berlin.
- Therefore, claiming that Russian armed forces pose a threat to anyone is incorrect, illogical, and contradicts the historical course that has led to the confrontation we are currently experiencing, Peskov argued.
Alarming words from the head of German intelligence
The meetings of the Bundestag committee responsible for discussing services are usually confidential. However, once a year, the heads of these services publicly respond to questions from parliamentarians. Such a public hearing took place in the Bundestag on Monday.
During the hearing, Bruno Kahl, head of Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND), made alarming statements. He declared that Russia could "attack NATO territory by the end of this decade". He further noted that "the Kremlin perceives the West, and thus Germany, as an enemy".
