Russia's Christmas assault: Energy grid targeted in massive attack
On Christmas, Russia conducted a massive attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The Ukrainians reported that Russia used a total of 184 rockets and drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, using 184 rockets and drones.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 59 rockets and 54 drones were shot down, while 52 unmanned aerial vehicles did not reach their target. The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed that the target was energy infrastructure.
Attack on Christmas: Hundreds of thousands of residents without power and heat
On Christmas, an air raid alert was announced across the territory of Ukraine due to the threat from Russian assault drones. The Ukrinform agency reported that Kalibr cruise missiles were launched from the Black Sea.
Targets were hit in the regions of Kharkiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Zaporizhzhia.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, one person was killed. In Kharkiv, 74 buildings were destroyed, and more than 500,000 residents were left without power and heat. Ukraine's largest energy company, DTEK, reported significant damage to its thermal power plants.

"Today, Putin deliberately chose Christmas for an attack. What could be more inhumane? Over 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than a hundred attack drones. The targets are our energy infrastructure. They continue to fight for a blackout in Ukraine. ," said Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the attack.
"Russian evil will not break Ukraine and will not spoil Christmas," added the President.
The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed that "the attack's objective was achieved, all targets were hit." In response to the massive attacks, the Polish military scrambled fighters near the eastern border.
