Analysts from the Ukrainian service Defence Express point out that the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report was primarily prepared with American interests, particularly the Golden Dome, in mind. However, for obvious reasons, it is also of significant interest to Ukrainians.

How many cruise and hypersonic missiles does Russia have left?

According to American estimates, the Russian Federation currently possesses between 300 and 600 long-range cruise missiles. These primarily include Kh-101, R-500, and Kalibr missiles.

Throughout the conflict in Ukraine, it has become evident that, when it comes to cruise missiles, the Russians most frequently deploy the Kh-101 and Kalibr. The Kh-101 is launched from aircraft, while the Kalibr was originally adapted for launching from surface ships and submarines. However, a land variant has been developed, which is launched from the Iskander system launchers.

Regarding hypersonic missiles, the DIA report suggests that the Russian Federation's stockpiles currently range from approximately 200 to 300 units, including missiles such as the Zircon and Kh-47M2 Kinzhal, which are used to attack Ukraine. These missiles travel at hypersonic speeds (above Mach 5), making them difficult for Ukrainians to counter. In practice, considering their army's equipment, only Patriot system batteries are capable of intercepting them.

From the American perspective, it is important to note that the discussed Russian weapons can carry nuclear warheads. However, variants equipped with conventional warheads are used for attacks on Ukrainian positions.

How many missiles can Russia produce annually?

Analysts from Defence Express also note that besides the stockpiles, the production capabilities of the Russian Federation for this type of missile are significant. American estimates suggest that around 500 cruise missiles and not more than 80 hypersonic missiles can be produced per year.
