Snake causes campus blackout, classes canceled at university

On the University of Richmond campus in Virginia, USA, a significant power outage occurred, leaving several buildings without power. The cause of the outage was unexpectedly discovered to be a snake that had slithered into the university's main power plant, resulting in a short circuit. Students didn't seem overly concerned about the situation, as classes were cancelled due to the snake's interference.

An unusual incident took place at the University of Richmond campus in Virginia. According to UR facilities, on Sunday evening, several key buildings, including the library and dormitories, lost access to electricity.

The culprit turned out to be a snake that had infiltrated the university's main power plant, causing the short circuit. "Following a thorough analysis, we have discovered that a central piece of equipment that safely delivers electrical power to our campus has sustained significant damage," stated an email sent by the university authorities.

As a result of this incident, classes on campus were cancelled, and the university authorities were faced with a major problem.

The outage occurred on Sunday, but its effects have been felt in the days following. Due to the holiday period, the university had difficulties quickly acquiring power generators.

The university authorities informed that most in-person classes would resume on Tuesday, but Michael Carpenter, responsible for technical repairs at the university, admitted that completely resolving the effects of the outage may take from a week to even several months. "The whole main power distribution center exploded," he explained.

Students were asked to conserve hot water. Nevertheless, they don't have much reason to complain. One student shared with the media that "there's a fun vibe on campus" because the outage encouraged students to spend time outside and take a break from their work.
