We most often eat cold cuts and yellow cheese because they make sandwiches easy. However, when we have even a little more time, it's worth making a paste that completely transforms your breakfast. The paste based on sprats will be ready even faster than an egg one.

This paste was a hit

A can of smoked sprats is always in my pantry. I inherited this habit from my mom, who often used these little fish for Friday breakfast by making a sandwich paste with them.

Although sprats are mini-sized, their flavour is definitely maxi. It's hard to deny them a strong character. Therefore, a good way is to mildly soften it with cottage cheese, especially if you don't like intense aromas or if children will be eating sandwiches with the paste. Now it can be supplemented with additional ingredients like sun-dried tomatoes, eggs, or lemon zest.

Dietitian recommends sprats

Sprats were long treated somewhat dismissively. However, they're making a comeback. They are increasingly appearing in tourist resorts and being sold as fish fast food.

It's still a long way until a summer vacation at the beach, but you can return from your next shopping trip with a can of sprats. Below, you'll find a recipe for a simple but delicious sprat paste. It's perfect for sandwiches but also pairs well with hard-boiled eggs.

Sprat paste

Ingredients:

  • 225 grams of cottage cheese,
  • a can of smoked sprats,
  • a tablespoon of yogurt or breakfast cheese spread,
  • salt and pepper to taste,
  • a few sprigs of chives or dill,
  • lemon juice to taste.

Directions:

  1. Remove the tails from the sprats, and drain the excess oil. Mash them with a fork.
  2. Mash the cottage cheese with a fork as well. Add yogurt or cheese spread.
  3. Combine the sprats with the cottage cheese, and season to taste.
  4. Sprinkle the paste with greens.

Sprat paste is a great addition to sandwiches. It tastes especially good on dark bread.
