Tense moments in Congress as Representative Al Green ousted
Already in the first few minutes of Donald Trump's address to Congress, problems arose. Texas Representative Al Green interrupted Trump and was subsequently escorted out.
During those initial minutes, Green stood up and began disrupting Trump's speech. He raised his cane into the air and waved it around.
This prompted a reaction from the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson. "Members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the house and to cease any further disruptions. That’s your warning. Members are engaging in willful and continuing breach of decorum, and the chair is prepared to direct the sergeant at arms to restore order to the joint session," he said.
"Mr. Green, take your seat, take your seat sir," Johnson repeated.
"Finding that members continue to engage in willful and concerted disruption of proper decorum, the chair now directs the sergeant at arms to restore order. Remove this gentleman from the chamber," stated Johnson, and applause erupted from the Republicans. After a moment, an officer escorted Green out of the room.
Some Republicans reacted with satisfaction at Green's removal from the room.
