Tesla sales plummet in EU as Musk navigates political ties
Sales of Tesla electric cars in the EU continue to decline, with a drop of 52.6% recorded in April year-over-year, following a 36% decline in the previous month compared to March 2024, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
In April, 5,475 new Tesla vehicles were registered compared to 11,540 in April 2024. In the first four months of this year, 41,677 Teslas were registered in the EU compared to 77,314 during the same period last year, marking a 46.1% decline.
Overall, Tesla's share in the European vehicle market shrank by 0.6% in April year-over-year.
Echoes of Musk's activities
Tesla began losing ground in the electric car market when Elon Musk became involved in political activities within Donald Trump's administration.
Elon Musk recently announced that his activities for DOGE, or the Department of Government Efficiency, are coming to an end. He simultaneously declared "full engagement" with his companies, emphasizing the need for significant improvements in the X social media platform.
"I'm back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference rooms, server rooms, and factories," Elon Musk wrote in a post on X, responding to reports of outages on the former Twitter.
