Clothing moths can become a real nuisance in any wardrobe. Their presence often remains undetected until we discover damaged clothes. These small pests feed on natural fabrics such as wool, silk, and cotton, causing their deterioration. How do we recognize the presence of clothing moths, and how do we eliminate them? Here are some methods.

Early signs of moths include small holes in fabrics and characteristic flying insects resembling moths. We might also observe their larvae, small white caterpillars, in the corners of closets or on clothes.

How to combat clothing moths?

It's worth starting the fight against moths with the use of natural repellents. These include dried lavender, cedar, sage, and cloves, which moths tend to avoid. We can place these herbs in closets and drawers, creating aromatic sachets that will repel unwanted guests.

Another way to get rid of clothing moths is to use vinegar or lemon juice. How do you do it? Prepare a solution and put it in a spray bottle, then spray the surface of the empty closet.

A very effective method for an infestation of clothing moths is using hot air from a hairdryer. Moths perish at temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. How do you get rid of clothing moths with a hairdryer? Direct a stream of hot air along the seams in the closet. The pests present there will die from the high temperature. Caution! Use this method carefully with varnished furniture, as the stream of hot air can damage the varnish. Another heat-based method is ironing clothes at a high temperature (of course, following the garment manufacturer's recommendations). The high temperature will kill the larvae.

How to prevent moths from appearing?

To effectively prevent moths from reappearing in our closet, it is worth regularly conducting a thorough cleaning of the entire wardrobe. Start by meticulously cleaning all shelves and closet interiors using solutions of water with vinegar. Adding a few drops of lavender oil will not only provide a pleasant scent but also repel moths.

An important aspect of prevention is also the proper storage of clothes. Organize the wardrobe by placing less frequently used clothing in airtight bags or preferably sealed containers. If you decide to store seasonal clothes for an extended period, it's advisable to have them dry-cleaned beforehand, which minimizes the potential risk of leaving moth eggs.
