Trump administration to revoke Ukrainian refugees' legal status
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to revoke the temporary legal status of about 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict with Russia, said a senior White House official and sources familiar with the matter.
As reported by Reuters, this move is expected as early as April. It would mark a significant reversal of the welcome that Ukrainians received under President Joe Biden's administration, comments Reuters.
As noted, this was planned even before Trump publicly argued with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington. It's part of broader actions by the Trump administration intended to strip more than 1.8 million migrants of legal status.
U.S. suspends aid to Ukraine
It's important to remember that the United States stopped sharing intelligence data with Ukraine. As noted by the American Institute for the Study of War, this is one of many demands made by the Kremlin to the U.S., Ukraine, and its allies.
On the night from Monday to Tuesday, the U.S. suspended military aid to Ukraine. U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated on Wednesday that Trump would consider reinstating this support if peace talks occur and efforts are made to restore trust in U.S.-Ukrainian relations.
